When to start?
- 0–3 years: Listen to music, sing together, play with toy instruments
- 3–5 years: Orff/Kodaly music classes — rhythm, singing, movement
- 5–6 years: Piano/keyboard lessons — the ideal first instrument
- 7+ years: Guitar, violin, flute — need more developed fingers and coordination
Benefits
According to Hyde et al. (2009), J Neuroscience:
- Children with musical training have stronger neural connections
- Improves reading, math, and memory
Tips
- Don't force — loss of interest = try another instrument
- Short daily practice (15–20 min) > long weekly lesson
